The Tuxedo Takeover

CU-oscars-post01b

Awards season is often seen as a bright, glittering spot in an otherwise dismal winter season. Whether you’re a pop culture enthusiast or someone who takes a noncommittal approach to the Hollywood hype, chances are you’ve tuned into an affair with beautiful people, even better looking outfits and some sort of gilded statue being handed out. With the pinnacle of awards season being the Oscars, there is no red carpet that is more star-studded or extravagant. Though we’ve come to expect list upon list devoted to the high fashion confections worn by all Hollywood starlets, slow but surely, menswear at the Oscars has become a buzz worthy topic all of it’s own.

With male stars topping best-dressed lists, 2015 was a breakthrough year for men’s Oscar fashion. This year was undoubtedly the year of the tuxedo. Oscar host Neil Patrick Harris wore five tuxedos by British, Italian and American luxury brands over the course of the show. No tux was more talked about than Jared Leto’s lavender Givenchy ensemble. Some called it on-trend; others hailed it a pastel disaster. Leto was not the only star to embrace the coloured tux. David Oyelowo made a modern sartorial statement with a red tux, while Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller & Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne all opted for dapper navy blue tuxedos.

Throughout the night, brands carried by Club Uomo were present on the Oscar circuit. Filmmaker Mark Hughes graced the red carpet in a traditional tuxedo by Ike Behar. Actors Liam Hemsworth, Russell Brand, Chad Michael Murray and Ryan Kwanten all wore Hugo Boss. Brand was his usual rocker chic in a fitted leather blazer. Hemsworth kept it classic in a black and white BOSS suit; Murray went with a slim, all black silhouette in a HUGO suit, while Kwanten kept it the most fashion-forward in a navy, silk & virgin wool BOSS tux.
